Maker Spotlight – Get To Know The Face Behind The Brand.
Meet Anne from Baublehaus. Anne lives in Mill Creek, WA and has been making jewelry using polymer clay since March of 2021. Her inspiration comes from anything Mid-Century Modern particularly the 60’s. Modern architecture fascinates her and she derives many ideas from the shapes created in architecture. Fashion trends and color combinations are also a huge inspiration. When Anne isn’t creating, she enjoys fashion, photography, knitting, sewing, drawing, and home decor. Her obsession is listening to crime podcasts (Crime Junkies, and The First Degree) and Bravo Tv gossip podcasts (Mention It All, The Daily Dish, Two Judgy Girls and Lady Gang), while she is creating her masterpieces.
Baublehaus specializes in bold, colorful and unique Mid-Century Modern jewelry. You can clearly see her love for architecture in the design of her pieces. Anne gladly accepts custom orders. Her website is located in her IG bio.
Here are some words from Anne:
–What made you want to start creating?-
“I began working with polymer clay during the beginning of the pandemic as an outlet to create. I can’t keep my hands still and need to make things constantly. I earn my income as a personal stylist, but my personal styling business had come to a standstill as I could not visit with my clients, and quite frankly, no one was getting dressed anymore. To pass the time, I started working with polymer clay. As jewelry has always been a passion of mine, that was where I started. Before I knew it, I had created over 80 pairs of earrings. Everyone kept asking me if I would sell them. Knowing that I couldn’t possibly wear all the designs I was making, I decided to really hone my craft and then launched Baublehaus in March of 2021. What started as a small hobby has now turned into a business venture, and I am so excited to see where it goes.”.
-Would you like to share any family info? Pets?-
“I have been married for almost 25 years. My husband has served in the military for over 32 years. I am quite proud to say we have survived through 3 deployments where my husband was gone for anywhere between 1-3 years. We have two children 9 years apart. Our oldest, Millicent, (daughter) currently lives in Pittsburgh after graduating college over a year ago. Our youngest , Oliver, (son) will be starting high school this year. My loyal sidekick is my wire-haired dachshund mix named Otis.”
-What is your MOST FAVORITE item you have created?-
“Currently I have 2 favorites. The Peony for the structure and the Starlite because it is quintessential 60’s atomic art.”
-What makes your shop unique?-
“I like to think what makes my shop unique is that I try to make each piece a miniature sculpture for your ears.”
–What is the story behind your business name?-
“The name Baublehaus is a play off of the word Bauhaus. The Bauhaus movement of the 1930s was the birth of the Mid-Century Modern Movement, and I derive much inspiration from the Bauhaus ideals and designs. The word “bauble” means a decorative object, and the word “haus” is German for house. Thus my home has become a place to make decorative objects and so the name was born.An interesting fact about the Bauhaus School was that when the Nazi Regime shut it down in 1933 and took it over for their headquarters many of the staff and students being Jewish and Communist followers fled to countries all over the world. As a result, the Bauhaus movement became international and can still be seen in many forms of art and architecture today.”
