Maker Spotlight – Get To Know The Face Behind The Brand.
Meet Maggie and Ezrah from Pinwheel Clay. Maggie and Ezrah live in Crofton, Maryland and have been creating their beautiful polymer clay earring creations since April 2021. These besties find inspiration in their love of traveling and have been fortunate to have travelled to interesting places around the world. Each release they have a collection that is inspired by a place they have visited, so travel plays a huge part in their work. Ezrah enjoys playing music, hiking, and baking and Maggie enjoys gardening, cooking, and crochet. When they are in maker mode, Ezrah finds How I Built This (NPR) so inspiring to listen to because she gets to hear about other entrepreneurs and how they started out, overcoming challenges and persevering to lead successful businesses. Maggie enjoys listening to audiobooks on Audible, YouTube music, and ‘Dirty John’ or any podcast from Wondery.
Pinwheel Clay specializes in colorful earrings made from polymer clay that also have a wide style range. You can see their personalities reflected in their pieces, since both of them make a collection for each of their monthly drops. Each collection has special meaning to them as they are inspired and designed after places they have visited. Pinwheel Clay has a drop on the 8th of every month. They also do a try-on prior that is very helpful in seeing how the pieces look when worn. Maggie and Ezrah gladly accept custom orders and their website is in their IG bio.
Here are some words from Maggie and Ezrah:
-What made you want to start creating?-
“We went on a road trip to New England last year and they found a shop that had the cutest earrings made by local artists. After a little bit of research, we learned that the earrings were made out of polymer clay. The earrings were so lightweight and beautifully crafted – we thought that perhaps it was something we could try making ourselves. Both of us makers have backgrounds and interests in arts and crafts (Ezrah is a musician and Maggie crochets), so in addition to our admiration for earrings, we believed we could learn to be jewelry makers with enough studying and practice. After a few experiments testing some designs, we decided to launch our own business.”
-What is your MOST FAVORITE item you have created?-
“Ezrah – Cape Town Triangles; Maggie – Cebu City Dangles”
-What makes your shop unique? What is your specialty?-
“We often see clay artists and makers work alone (kudos to them for running their own business!!) but at Pinwheel Clay there are two of us so we offer a variety of options between the two of us. We offer bright and cheerful pieces that evoke blissfulness and hope to bring joy to those wearing our jewelry.”
-What is the story behind your business name?-
“We knew we wanted something colorful and whimsical to represent our business. After going through maybe hundreds of different ideas, we settled on pinwheel as a logo because it represents optimism and positivity – which is what we hope to radiate into the world through our jewelry.”
