Maker Spotlight – Get To Know The Face Behind The Brand.
Meet Maartje from Handmade Hygge. Maartje lives in Aarhus, Denmark and has been creating with clay for about a year and a half. She finds inspiration in nature mostly, but also in architecture, hygge moments and memories. In addition to crafting, she also plays multiple instruments and loves climbing and bouldering. When she is not claying, you can usually find her in the bouldering hall. When Maartje is in creator mode, she enjoys watching Netflix series, or IGTV.
Handmade Hygge specializes in polymer clay earrings. Her designs are wearable and she also offers earrings with cuffs attached. Maartje’s Etsy store is listed in her IG bio and she gladly accepts custom orders.
Here are some words from Maartje:
-What made you want to start creating?-
“I’ve always been crafty. Knitting, sewing, painting, macramé, jewelry making (with beads mostly) you name it. During lockdown I found polymer clay and a love story happened. Haven’t looked at my pile of yarn since hahaha.”
-What is your MOST FAVORITE item you have created?-
“Don’t make me choose…. Please!! Anything partly translucent with color. I found my style with those. Or my staple pieces that I have yet to reveal (with a cuff).”
-What makes your shop unique? What is your specialty?-
“I love anything edgy chic. Basically chic pieces you can wear dressed up or down (think dress, or leather jacket and ripped jeans). But mostly, anything that makes YOU feel good. My favorite thing to do is to do customs.”
-What is the story behind your business name?-
“Hygge” is Danish for “cozy”, and so much more. Have a highlight explaining it. Basically it’s about feeling good, and that’s what I aim to do: Make others feel good.”
