Maker Spotlight – Get To Know The Face Behind The Brand.
Meet April Joy from French Quarter Girl Boutique. April resides in New Orleans, LA and has been creating her jewelry since the pandemic. Like many, she lost her job, then just played around making earrings and found out that a lot of other people liked what she was doing. Now, you can find her work in 4 shops around New Orleans and she would love to eventually do this full-time! April Joy’s inspiration comes from fashion, drag, makeup, glitter, anything holographic, and anything body positive. When this fiery and confident Aries isn’t crafting her bold, fun, statement earrings, she enjoys cooking and baking. She’s also a huge anime geek, loves anything horror related and obsessed with RuPaul’s Drag race! April Joy watches Drag Race reruns, horror movies, Sailor Moon, and Last Podcast on the Left when she is creating her pieces.
French Quarter Girl Boutique specializes in resin earrings that are often mixed with glitter, letters, photos, and flowers. Her designs are as bold and fierce as she is. April Joy gladly accepts custom orders and this is how I met her! I sent her photos and told her what I wanted and she took care of the rest. She was great to work with and I highly recommend reaching out to her if you would like a custom. Please DM her to order if you have any questions or see anything on her IG page that you would like to purchase.
Here are some words from April Joy:
-What made you want to start creating?-
“I’ve always been a creative person. As a kid I wanted to be an artist when I grew up but I guess I’ve left it a bit vague! I graduated culinary school and have cooked/baked my entire adult life. I was also a street artist/painter on Jackson Square for 5 years.”
–What is your MOST FAVORITE item you have created?-
“Not sure because it changes. Right now my new body pieces.”
-What makes your shop unique?-
“Being bold, unabashed, lots of bright color and glitter!”
-What is the story behind your business name?-
“What started as a backhanded compliment from a pretentious uptown girl, because of the way I was dressed. I took ownership instead because I will wear what I want no matter who likes it! Body positive and proud!”
