Maker Spotlight – Get To Know The Face Behind The Brand.
Meet Aviva from Dear Thistle. Aviva resides in Chicago, IL. She started creating in May of 2020 and launched her small business in July of 2020. She is inspired by all things iridescent, opalescent, and colorshift. Creating work that mirrors natural beauty like gems and the iridescent wings of an insect is her favorite. When she is not making, she enjoys cooking and baking and watching every murder mystery/procedural that has ever existed. When she is in maker mode she will usually listen to an audiobook/watch tv while pouring (more murder mysteries) or listen to her favorite podcast, Who Weekly.
Dear Thistle specializes in resin statement earrings and hair clips. I love her use of color as well as her use of all things sparkly (think lots of glitter and colorshift flakes). Aviva happily accepts custom orders and her website is located in her IG bio.
Here are some words from Aviva:
“I’m the physical embodiment of all things pink and floral with lots of glitter thrown in for good measure. I love to work with anything iridescent, colorshift, opalescent, or pearlescent to create statement pieces for everyday life!”
-What made you want to start creating?-
“I had always felt like a creative person without an outlet before finding resin, when I started pouring it felt like something just clicked.”
-Would you like to share any family info? Pets?-
“My husband and I both work from home, much to the joy of our two cats, Louise and Leona.”
-What is your MOST FAVORITE item you have created?-
“The Daisy earrings I’ve created recently really encapsulate all my favorite aspects of my work, they are more time intensive but so fun!”
-What makes your shop unique? What is your specialty?-
“I create one of a kind pieces and feature new styles of glitter/pigments that aren’t commonplace! Wearing my work is always a conversation starter.”
-What is the story behind your business name?-
“I knew I wanted to have something floral inspired and most of all wanted it to sound natural and organic as a phrase. I love thistles, they were featured in my wedding bouquet and my logo is based directly on a drawing of a tattoo I have which also features them.”
