Maker Spotlight – Get To Know The Face Behind The Brand.
Meet Maria from Clay Dazing. Maria lives in Nashville, TN and has been creating jewelry for a little over a year. She finds inspiration from so many things, but where a lot of her ideas come from are usually different prints she sees or patterns on her clothes. She loves when an outfit comes together just by adding earrings. Her hobbies include singing, songwriting, cooking, and baking. When she is in maker mode she watches Reality TV because it’s the easiest to watch when you don’t actually have to watch.
Clay Dazing specializes in earrings and hair accessories made from polymer clay. Her designs are whimsical and are sure to be a conversation starter when worn. Maria gladly accepts custom orders and you can find her website in her IG bio.
Here are some words from Maria:
-What made you want to start creating?-
“I’d always been creative, but never a hands-on creator. While spending more time at home like many, I purchased a DIY clay earring kit from Dew Drop Inc. and just really enjoyed how it made me feel when I saw the results of what I’d created. From there, I continued making polymer clay earrings as a fun hobby and stress reliever, and quickly fell completely in love with the craft. After posting some of my first pieces to my personal social media, there was a decent interest and thus, Clay Dazing was born.”
-Would you like to share any family info? Pets?-
“I’m married to my husband Keith Hetrick, who is a Grammy-nominated music producer, but he wishes that wasn’t always the first way I introduced him, but I’m just so proud! He’s also amazing at gardening and literally anything on the grill / in the kitchen. 🥰 We share a home with our sweet, loving beagle @emmyeatstheworld, who’s also the “CEO” of Clay Dazing.”
-What is your MOST FAVORITE item you have created?-
“Brighter Daze Stained Glass Dangles.”
-What makes your shop unique? What is your specialty?-
“I try to create things based on what my customers ask for. So instead of just doing whatever I want, I use polls on social media to get ideas of collections/products my current customers want and would wear. This really helps me hone in on how to make it unique based on what they’ve already shown interest in.”
-What is the story behind your business name?-
“I wanted to have a name that offered me to take my creative ideas to new places, without having to be boxed in. I love creating pieces that spread happiness from ear to ear. Some days I might create bright and colorful designs, where other days I might just be playing with neutrals / black and whites. Either way though, each piece is crafted with love…and always a smile!”
