Maker Spotlight – Get To Know The Face Behind The Brand.
Meet Faiza from Anam Creations. Faiza resides in Toronto, Ontario, Canada and has been making art and crafty things as a hobby since she was a teenager, but she started selling professionally in October 2020. She is inspired by everything around her. She knows all the makers can relate to this because when you love the work, like she does, there are no limits to her imagination. When she sees a print on someone’s coat, she immediately wants to make it into earrings. She sees certain types of leaves or flowers, she wants to dry and press them or sculpt them out of clay. The other day she noticed her garbage can for her work space that she got last year, but only in her random moment of zen did she notice the print on it, which inspired her to make some canes based on it (current passion project). In her spare time Faiza absolutely loves to listen to music, she listens to so many genres she lost count. She is not a one genre only purist, more of whatever sounds amazing to her ears and makes her move either spiritually or physically. She also loves to do makeup, paint and make small pieces of furniture with her partner. They built a plant shelf together and she shows her DIYs on her page. She binge watches TV, whenever she gets the chance, especially older shows (hello Ugly Betty, Drag Race, Gilmore Girls, Dexter, True Blood, any neighbourhood murder solving show you can think of. When she is in maker mode she loves cleaning her space before creating or she can’t focus. She will also light a candle, get into comfy clothes, sometimes smoke some herb to calm any nerves (legal in Canada), and make a nice iced tea drink. It’s a ritual, it’s a vibe, she gets into it. She enjoys podcasts every now and then but usually she will pop on a feel good show or movie, or play some music.
Anam Creations specializes in polymer clay earrings, hair accessories, body care and home goods. Faiza happily accepts custom orders and you can find her Etsy store linked on her IG page. She has an Animal Print Collection dropping on May 21st at 3PM EST.
Here are some words from Faiza :
-What made you want to start creating?-
“I’ve always been sort of a renaissance woman, I find new things to love and engulf myself with often. I used to be a line cook in professional kitchens with my own mini catering business. I also have my own body care line that I also sell under my Anam Creations hub. So creating has always been a way of life for me. I know it’s a common answer but my mental health declining definitely played a huge part in my reason to start creating more consistently. Once the pandemic hit, I lost my job and went back to school. I realized I didn’t want to do the traditional desk work a lot of us are familiar with so I started creating to fuel my passion to make beautiful art and as a bonus, to sell my work to supplement my income.”
-Would you like to share any family info? Pets?-
“I have a loving partner named Ted and we have an adorable kitty named Hazel who we adopted during the pandemic. She’s truly made our life complete❤️. She’s almost 3 years old, so super energetic and fun to watch. Other family wise, I have a super smart younger brother and you may see my dad leave embarrassingly adorable hype-man comments under my posts lol”
-What is your MOST FAVORITE item you have created?-
“Definitely my Bumblebee Jasper faux crystal technique. I have never seen anyone make one before and I had to try it my way, it turned out so beautiful! I have some other favorites too that need a special mention like my love letter earrings flowing with tulips and the rest of my crystal collection that I released last year.”
-What makes your shop unique? What is your specialty?-
“What makes my shop unique is that I am a one stop shop for handcrafted goods. I feel in a world where everyone has to have a niche, I stand out by having my own hub of creative energy that’s packed into fun and functional things that can bring people beauty and joy. Whether it’s my jewelry creations like earrings, necklaces, rings. My home decor pieces like bookmarks candles, coasters, trinket dishes, wall hangings. Or my best seller before I sold earrings: my body butter balm that transforms dull and dry skin within 2 months of consistent use..I feel my shop is truly unique, a self care oasis for the lovers and the dreamers and make it art. My specialty is showing people how to create their own world with handcrafted goods for their heart, body and home.”
-What is the story behind your business name?-
“Since I make more than one kind of product, I decided to name my business Anam Creations. I’m from Bangladesh and India. I used my family name because in my familial culture, names hold a lot of meaning and it was important to me to represent my cultural identity in some way while also staying true to me. I also didn’t want to stress over finding the perfect name, so I just went for it!”
